Tanner Goods – First Look

tanner goods tote and rolltop

I heard about Tanner Goods over on Reddit. From what I have seen online they make beautiful products but I want to check them out in person. Their closest store (to me) is in Portland but I don’t have time right now for a special trip. Lucky me there is a stockist in town!

I went to the Blue Owl Workshop in Seattle today. They are based in Fremont and keep boutique hours so plan ahead if you want to check them out. I suggest you do because in addition to Tanner Goods products they have the best selection of high quality denim I have seen in Seattle as well as a bunch of high quality hoodies and boots.

They had two bags in stock. A waxed canvas tote and a roll top rucksack.

Tanner Goods Everyday Tote

The Everyday Tote in Waxed Field Tan is a beautiful tote bag. It’s made from waxed 18 oz. filter twill canvas, brass rivets, and Horween leather. This bag feels high quality and durable. Every seam feels sturdy and the zipper is one of the best I have seen on a tote. There are three exterior pockets, One large and two small. Tanner Goods uses button studs to make the carrying straps adjustable as well as for a gather handle.

Everything about this bag is sturdy from its thick canvas to its leather straps. The only negative I could see is that while the zipper is strong it is toothy. Anything you put in or pull out could take a beating from such a burly zipper. Still if you are conscious of it I don’t think it would be a problem.

Tanner Goods Wilderness Rucksack

The Wilderness Rucksack in Sage is also very sturdy. Tanner Goods makes a waxed canvas version but the one I got to touch was just their standard 18oz cotton canvas. It has the same Horween leather straps, button studs, and brass rivets but this bag has an added feature. Inside is a felted wool laptop slot with leather pockets. This feels like a pretty good amount of protection for your laptop.

The straps also have felted wool pads. I was not able to put something heavy in the bag and try them out but they feel like they would be good. The roll top and button studs are easy to operate

I can think of no negatives for this bag but personally I would go for the waxed canvas version.

Summary

Tanner Goods makes some beautiful stuff. I am going to plan a trip to Portland soon to go check out their other products. I hear they make fantastic wallets and belts too. If you have a Tanner Goods product do tell us about it in the comments below!

About

Many years ago I decided that I needed to dress better so I dove into the world of men's fashion. I learned what works for me.

In my personal style journey, one of the last things that I addressed was accessories. People discuss raw denim till they are blue in the face but accessories are often forgotten. Men's bags don't get the attention that they deserve.

Your outfit is incomplete without giving consideration to the bag you carry. Retire the high-vis nylon beater that served you well in your youth and find something more grown up. Read More…
